Comet Morehouse (C/1908 R1)
A comet discovered from the USA in 1908, the first to be studied extensively by means of photography. Remarkable changes were observed in the tail structure. Throughout 30 September 1908 the tail changed continuously. On 1 October, it broke off and a tail could not be seen visually, though a photograph of 2 October showed three tails. The breaking off and subsequent growth of tails occurred repeatedly.
